The way of the Buddha

Image
The way of the Buddha God laws are eternal and unalterable and not separable from God Himself It is an indispensable condition of His very perfection. Hence there is great confusion that the Buddha disbelieved in God and simply believed in the moral law. Because of this confusion about God Himself arose the confusion about the proper understanding of the great word Nirvana. Nirvana is undoubtedly not utter extinction. So far as I understand the central fact of the Buddha’s life, Nirvana is utter extinction of all that is base in us, all that is vicious in us, and all that is corrupt and corruptible in us. Nirvana is not like the black dead peace of the grave, but the living peace, the living happiness of a soul which is conscious of itself and conscious of having found its own abode in the heart of the Eternal... Gautama taught the world to treat even the lowest creatures as equal to himself. He held the life of even the crawling creatures of the earth to be as precious as his own. It

Find the source of ego

Image
Find the source of ego Meditation is deliberating on the thought process and bringing it to a focal point. Some go for total thoughtlessness. The other way is to focus between the eyebrows to see the light of Brahmn. Chanting of a mantra is another way to do meditation. Ramana Maharishi of Arunachalam said that one should search for self-identity by asking: “Who am I?” In meditation one should ask this question and with gradual evolution find calmness and peace. The question really means, what is the source or origin of ego? To find the answers you need to be free of attitude. Give up the bhavana that you are the body related to name, profession, region, language and other such acquired identities. There is no need to have an attitude about your real nature. It exists as it always has. It is real. Some ask that does not the enquiry “who am I”? turn out, in the end, to be an empty question? Self-enquiry is not done in vain. It is more than the repetition of a mantra. If the enquiry were

Happiness is not everything

Happiness is not everything The idea of happiness is a kind of ignorance. If your understanding is healthy, then you will never give too much importance to happiness; we do so because of our ignorance. Happiness is not the idea, purpose or aim of life; happiness is a consequence, a fruit. Happiness is a subject of the senses; it is felt by the senses, it is an idea of the senses; it is information got from the senses. The scope of the senses is limited and the senses are completely unaware of the greatness of life. So if you are thinking for happiness or working for happiness you are just following your senses, you are indulging them. You are just living with your senses. Understand the game of the senses, and then go beyond them. Discover that portion of life, that part of life that can give us something permanent, the highest knowledge of life, the highest clarity in life. Nobody enters the path with full clarity, so even if you are ignorant or you lack the aspiration, somehow you wi

Get on that hotline to God

Image
Get on that hotline to God The great body of rituals and prayers passed on to us from our ancestors might indeed help us get in touch with God. However, there is room yet for personal prayer, which is more like a hotline to God. Personal prayer has the power of personal experience, making the communion truly intimate. William Law says: "It is not the arithmetic of our prayers, how many they are; nor the rhetoric of our prayers, how eloquent they may be; nor the geometry of our prayers, how long they be; nor the music of our prayers, how sweet our voice may be; nor the logic of our prayers, how argumentative they may be; nor the method of our prayers, how orderly they may be that counts." In short, true prayer is that which comes from the heart. The need for God finds expression in new ways and we begin life anew every day of our lives. It might help if we keep short accounts with God, so that we live from day-to-day and minute-to-minute in communion with God. There are many w

Rearrange, restock Open your refrigerator and what do you see first? Colas, crunchy chocolates or frozen fries? Maybe it’s time to restock your refrigerator with healthy, low calorie food options.
