Socialism

Image
Socialism As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." This man is truly a genius! An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! ...

Shyness

Image
Shyness is a disorder and not an illness. Are you a shy person? It can be considered to be normal to some extent. Most people experience some amount of discomfort while entering a room full of strangers, or if they have to deliver a speech. However, sometimes shyness can take on extreme forms. Shyness is believed to affect nearly 50 per cent of adults to some degree. It is defined by the Encyclopedia of Mental Health as, “discomfort and/or inhibition in interpersonal situations. It is a form of excessive self-focus.” Dr Jyoti Sangle, psychotherapist, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai says, “It is important to understand that shyness is a problem and not an illness. The line between the illness as social phobia and shyness is thin, but the line and the features differ in quality and intensity. Hence, the approach towards overcoming shyness becomes more subjective and individualistic.” Dr Kersi Chavda, consultant psychiatrist, P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai further explians, “The mains...

In Golf, So In Life Play A Positive Game

Image
In Golf, So In Life Play A Positive Game The old master was already there when the golfer reached the course at daybreak. He had sought the master’s help because more than a pleasurable activity, golf had become a torment for him. Master: First, the basics. In many ways golf is life itself. Think of the ball as your soul which craves salvation, represented by the hole in the green. The 14 clubs in the golf-set symbolise five elements — earth, fire, water, air and space — of which the human body is composed, five senses, instinct, ego or the lower mind, intellect or the higher mind and the consciousness... You play well when they work in tandem. In other words, you should strive to achieve harmony within and without. See the rising sun, smell the fresh air and feel its moist kiss on your cheek and feel the cushion of the soft grass under your feet. Then, close your eyes and feel yourself as a part of all this. When the golfer opened his eyes, the master resumed. Master: There are many ...

Who is the real guru?

Image
Who is the real guru? Two contrary views were expressed in these columns recently one by a proclaimed guru, exchanging wisdom for compensation, and the other by a reluctant guru who expected no compensation yet never succeeded in being proclaimed a guru. A guru is one who removes ignorance about one's own potentiality. Some claiming to be guru provide information drawn from scriptures. But that makes one possessed of information, which is not a substitute for wisdom. The internet is a great source of information, but the one who is a service provider cannot be a guru. A guru can only make the seeker competent and qualified to become wise with the information provided; the guru cannot make the disciple wise. Mother is said to be a great guru. What role does a mother play in the child's physical, psychological, moral and spiritual evolution? Observe a mother bird after it lays its egg. It gives the egg the warmth it needs and protects it from harm. Once the chick comes out of the...

Programme yourself for mind management

Image
Programme yourself for mind management In every difficulty there is an opportunity. Life is really a choice... to be either wise, not wise or otherwise. A wise king wanted advice about what to do when he faced a real crisis in his life. He met his master. The master gave him a locket and told him to open it only when he was in difficulty. After some years he was defeated in a battle and he lost his kingdom. He was worried and was hiding in a cave. He suddenly remembered what his master had told him. He opened the locket and there he found a note, "even this will pass", and a second note which said, "if one door closes another door opens". He gained strength from this piece of advice and after a month won his kingdom back. He went to his master and thanked him and asked a question: "Why does the door close?" "The door is always open, your mind is closed," replied the master. There are two types of worlds we live in. The visible world and the invis...
